What
happens in the overall Counselling or Psychotherapy
process?
1. Understanding your background
and the issues and collecting information
2. Identifying the core issues and spending some time on
education around these
3. Forming an understanding of what can be done and how
to proceed
4. Understanding what can be achieved and setting goals
5. Implementing the counselling or psychotherapy
6. Evaluating progress
7. Finishing the counselling or psychotherapy when the
goals have been reached
Confidentiality
All personal details and
information discussed inside and outside sessions are
kept strictly confidential. Further aspects of this will
be discussed in the first session.
How long are
the sessions?
Sessions are normally 50 minutes
in length. However if you are travelling some
distance to attend the session longer times can be
negotiated.
How often
will I come?
Initially sessions are scheduled
once per week. As the counselling or psychotherapy comes
to a close sessions that are scheduled every fortnight
often become appropriate.
How long might the counselling or
psychotherapy take overall?
The length of treatment depends on a
number of variables. These variables include: the
severity of the problem, the motivation of the client,
the type of problem and the age of the client. The more
focused and limited the problem being addressed, the
shorter treatment can be. The more the treatment
addresses healing emotional injuries, the longer it is
likely to take. We provide a variety of
short and long term approaches to cater for the needs of
all individuals.
How will I
know what counselling or psychotherapy approach is best
for me?
There are many different
theoretical approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. From a best practice and duty of care perspective
therapists should only offer clients theoretical
approaches that can clearly and effectively treat the
issues at hand. We offer a selection of evidence
based practices that have been widely researched and
validated to be effective in the treatment
of many
psychological issues. All of these theories and
practices focus on solving problems in the "here and
now". These different approaches place varying
levels of emphasis on behaviour, thinking and/or
emotional aspects. As part of the therapy process we
will determine what theories and practices will best
support you in obtaining your goals and assist you in
increasing your sense of well-being.
